Help me how to save the contact number ...

Apple iphone has typical problem in saving International numbers. Actually when I save my friend's number in India, I save it as ( 91)xxx-xxx-xxx where 91 is country code. But apple iphone do not recognise the same number when I receive a call as (91) xxx -xxx -xxxx even though all numbers are same. If I save it as (91) xxx -xxx- xxx, my out going calls or msgs are failing. Hence I have to save both the numbers everytime. Is there any other way to solve this issue?
