I just setup a new (free trial) MobileMe account for my iPhone. After setting it up on my iPhone, I checked mobileme.com but the contacts did not sync. Now I checked my iPhone contacts and they are all gone. I am a bit alarmed. When I set up the account, I made sure to specify that I wanted to merge my existing contacts with MobileMe, not have MobileMe overwrite them. What is going on, and how can I restore my contacts?
